Huangguoshu Waterfall Festival to Open in Anshun
The Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou

The 2006 China Huangguoshu Waterfall Festival will begin on September 16th at Doupotang, the famous waterfall scenic area located in Anshun, in southwestern China's Guizhou Province.

According to Meng Qiliang, the Deputy Governor of Guizhou Province, this year's festival will consist of several major events, including: the 2006 International Forum on Countryside Tourism in China, the first Guizhou Tourism Development Conference, talks on local tourism-related trade and investments, a "Colorful Guizhou" trade fair featuring souvenirs for tourists, as well as the "Red Tour," a celebration of the 70th anniversary of the victorious end to the Red Army's Long March.

Tourism in Guizhou Province has seen a significant boom during recent years. The number of visitors to the province and subsequent revenues from tourism in the first half of this year grew by 84.1 and 102.6% respectively, as compared with last year. The rate of vacancies in hotels in the province's major tourist cities has been lower than 20%.

The "Huangguoshu Waterfall Festival" is an annual event held at the world-famous Huangguoshu Waterfall, with an aim to promote the rich tourist attractions found in China's Guizhou Province. This year's festival will be co-hosted by China's National Tourism Administration and the provincial government of Guizhou.
